 Classroom Expectations

Since the beginning of history, rules and procedures have been needed in order to maintain a well-functioning environment.  They are not developed to get people in trouble.  Rules are set to keep people safe and to treat everyone as fairly as possible.

School is a place of learning for students.  The classroom should be and will be a safe, comfortable, learning environment.  It should be the goal of every student to work and achieve to the best of his/her ability.

Therefore, there are four rules to follow in order to maintain this environment.

  • Be on time!
  • Be prepared for class EVERYDAY with the required materials! (outside reading book, 3-ring binder with paper, and pen or pencil (only blue or black ink please!))
  • Be respectful of other and their opinions!
  • Listen while other speak!

If we all work together and maintain this environment, the sky's the limit to our learning!!

 Literature Circles/Book Logs

Outside reading is still critical to language development.  Reading outside of class will be a requirement in 7th grade.  Literature circles will be utilized throughout the year.  Small groups will read the same book and discuss important elements in that book.  Time will be given in class throughout the year, however, much of the reading will need to be done outside of class.  In addition, book logs will be kept throughout the year documenting the time spent reading outside of class.  Book reports will be written in order to note comprehension and understanding of the story.  Also, short literary respnses to the reading will be turned in weekly.  These elements will be included in the homework and assessment grade.  Please see the outside reading requirement handout on the 7th language arts tab.
